Vaping Excise Tax | Excise Tax Information

WHAT IS IT?

The federal and provincial governments introduced the excise tax on vaping products in October of 2022 and July of 2024. Similar to the excise taxes found on tobacco, cannabis and alcohol. While some provinces only collect federal excise on vaping products, some collect both federal and provincial excise.

Current provinces we provide service to with only federal excise taxes are British Columbia and Newfoundland.

Current provinces with both federal and provincial excise taxes that we provide service to are Alberta, Manitoba, PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.

HOW IS IT CALCULATED?

Excise tax is only applied to vaping liquids and products that contain vaping liquid. The rate is doubled in provinces that collect both federal and provincial excise tax. The rate is calculated based on the volume of liquid: 

  • $1.12 per 2ml for the first 10ml of vaping substance
  • $1.12 per additional 10ml

Example for provinces with only federal excise: 

  • 30ML: $7.84 
  • 60ML: $11.20 
  • 120ML: $17.92

Example for provinces with both federal and provincial excise:

  • 30ML: $7.84 (FED) + $7.84 (PROV) = $15.68
  • 60ML: $11.20 (FED) + $11.20 (PROV) = $22.40
  • 120ML: $17.92 (FED) + $17.92 (PROV) = $35.84

HOW ARE THESE CHARGES SHOWN WHEN SHOPPING ONLINE WITH VAPOURS CANADA?

When shopping online, the price you see listed on each product INLCUDES any applicable Excise Tax.

PROVINCE SPECIFIC PRODUCTS (Products labeled [ONTARIO], [FEDERAL], etc.)

Certain products may only be sold to certain provinces. This is due to the product being packaged with a specific provincial excise stamp. For example:

  • Products labelled [ONTARIO] may only be sold to Ontario residents. 

Attempting to order a product that does not match the province you reside in will result in order cancellation and refund.
